Refine Seattle

Live Resin

Live Resin is made by freezing the plant directly after harvest and freezing it before it’s processed. The result is a robust floral dabbing experience that is brilliantly bright like the artwork that adorns their jars.

Loud Resin

The loud resin is created by extracting plants that are at the highest point of resin production. Similar to the live resin process but with a different blend of solvents to get the “loudest” terpene profiles possible. Loud and live resin are similar but don’t confuse the tw0. Both have unique effects and Refine recommends doing side-by-side live and loud resin comparisons with the same strain.

Double Dipper

Refine’s double dipper is a cannabis connoisseurs dream. Similar to their Amplified line (see below,) you’re getting half loud resin and half of their fully activated distillate. This allows the consumer to search for a super specific cannabinoid profile. You’re going to get rich terpene profiles with the distillates heavy effects.

Amplified

Loud Resin plus cannabis-derived terpenes is how the Amplified line is created. This allows the X-Tracted team to play with flavor profiles and combine your favorite terpene profiles for limitless combination possibilities.

Mixing their live resin and distillate allows for flavorful terpene profiles paired with increased medicinal effects from their distillate. They can further play with flavors and effects by mixing strains. It makes for a once in a lifetime dab.

A Real Review of Refine’s Circa 97 Dutch Live Resin

Refine’s live resin never lasts long in my head stash. It’s always full of terpy goodness with a clean and long lasting high. Clean concentrates start with clean flower. Refine pairs with many great cannabis producers, but their collaborations with Green Valley Society are always my favorite.

Circa 97 Dutch is some kind of Dutch Treat phenotpye. Pop off the lid and Dutch Treat’s signature fuel and haze aroma pours out, but with more lemon and pine notes. Those pine and lemon notes follow through the flavor as well.

The high is a clear headed and long lasting. It is a bit mind racy, but if you’re a heavy dabber you could easily dab this and go about your to-do list. If you’re new to concentrates take little dabs or else you might fall into a vortex of your own thoughts for a few hours. I know many people don’t like potent head highs, but I’m a fan and this live resin delivers one with delicious aromatics and flavor.

Exotic Cookies Loud Resin from Refine

Bred by Exotic Genetix, Refine turned their Exotic Cookies into clean resin exuding  pungent lemon and fuel aromatics.

Purple Kush Loud Resin from Refine

Do you like indica strains? Dab this shit. Another banger loud resin creation from Refine, this dab taste like sweet fuel and has a classic sedative indica high.

Black Cherry Soda Sugar Wax from Royal Tree Gardens

One of the best-tasting dabs on this list, Royal Tree Gardens Black Cherry Soda is tasted like carbonated cherry soda. This strain packs a clear-headed sativa high.

Pineapple Express Sugar Wax from Dorado

There might not be a better tasting $30 gram on this list. Beautiful caked up crystals with subtle pineapple aromatics. The taste is anything but subtle, this dab taste like pineapple fruit gushers just exploded on your pallet. This gram might not last long, it’s hard to stop with just one.

Low Temp Dabbing Is Best For Flavor and Safety

Low temp dabbing is a method people use to ensure flavor, but it could be the safest way to dab. The Oregonian released a story citing hot dab dangers.citing a study by Portland State University chemistry professor Robert Strongin. The article states carcinogens are released when terpenes present in butane hash oil (BHO) are vaporized on nails at temperatures above 750 degrees Fahrenheit and 932 degrees Fahrenheit.  Methacrolein and benzene are the carcinogens in question, respectively. Low temp dabbing is the process many concentrate users practice

The temperature goal for successful low temp dabbing is between 350 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit, High Times reports. This allows the cannabinoids and terpenes to melt all the way; providing the full spectrum of the strain’s effect without burning your throat and scorching the flavor. The most popular type of equipment used for low temp dabbing is a type of nail called a “quartz banger,” which is a small bucket that you scoop your dabs into. Pair this with carb cap that acts as a seal to retain as much heat in the nail as possible to melt the dab and cut down on waste.  Quartz is the most popular because it heats up relatively quickly and has great retention properties. There are other types of nails used, such as titanium and ceramic, but the rest of this article will use quartz nails as a reference point for heating and cooling times.

BHO concentrates are a staple in the recreational scene. Many of the notable extraction companies use butane to extract the THC, CBD, and terpenes from the plant material which leaves the final solvent that is dabbed. The excess butane and other impurities are purged out with heat and what’s left is your concentrate. Slight variations of extraction variables paired with different cannabis strains is what gives you all of your many concentrate varieties. The Oregonian doesn’t specify what brand of concentrates were used in the study, only the terpene profiles and that BHO was the solvent used in the extraction process.

“We don’t want to say things like this are just bad,” Strongin said. “It really depends on the user.”

There are several factors to consider when your cooling down your nail. Will Linn is the former Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Northwest Cannabis Solutions. He’s an experienced concentrate connoisseur and knows the importance of regulating nail temperature.

“Preference is part of it, but you never want to get any concentrate too hot, Linn said.” “It burns away the terpenes, which in effect takes away from the taste and the potency of the product.”

An important part is having the same starting point for every dab; heat the nail until it’s glowing orange. A nail that is visibly glowing orange or red will be roughly 800 degrees Fahrenheit, High Times reports. Let it cool down from this point; it’s important to time this process with a stopwatch or timer on your phone. Using your hand isn’t a consistent enough method for consistent results.

Let your nail cool anywhere from 45 seconds to a minute and 30 seconds depending on the thickness of your nail and the size of your dab. Linn explains there will be a trial and error period for each nail and type of solvent (rosin, distillate, shatter, etc,) to zero in the heat to maximize the taste and effect. The smaller the dab, the less you will want the nail to heat up, and vice-versa. You will know if your nail is too hot because the remnant oil will be a singed black crust; instead of a warm brown liquid that is easily cleaned up with a Q-tip.

low temp dabbing

“Most people take minimally sized dabs compared to some of the dabs I’ve taken,” Linn continued, “it depends on where people are at with their tolerance level.”

Low Temp Dabbing Tutorial 1

Mary’s budtender, Tim Reynolds, is also an experienced dabber and he isn’t worried about the results of the study, pointing out that even the amount of carcinogens released when dabbing off a hot nail are still less than found in cigarettes. Reynolds believes that the medicinal benefits far outweigh the potential hazards. He plans on upgrading to a device called an e-nail, which regulates the temperature electronically and you can dial it to any temperature you want and it will stay there until you turn it off.

The electronic nail is an easier way to experience low temp dabs, but it can be costly if you want a reliable set-up. Consistently dabbing a torch and nail at low temperatures is absolutely possible with more research and attention to detail. Dabbing correctly entails a steep learning curve, but you’ll be thankful of the time spent learning the correct way after dabbing off crystal clear nails for months and months without having to replace them.
